DAF clutch repair near Erfurt, Germany
“Unscrewed the hatch and saw pieces of the clutch inside”: A DAF XF 480 Euro 6 truck with a semitrailer from Belarus had a problem. We will tell you how we helped.
On the German A4 highway, a carrier from Belarus had a breakdown with his DAF truck – the driver couldn’t switch gears.
A specialist from the international help service AWHelp24, who was called by the truck owner, requested direct contact with the driver to give him the necessary instructions. The AWHelp24 service mechanic looked at the photos and made preliminary diagnostics. Two options were offered to the carrier - mobile service and repair at the manufacturers service station.
On the highway near the capital of Thuringia, Erfurt, a Belarusian driver encountered an unexpected breakdown of his heavy truck. After contacting the assistance service for international carriers AWHelp24, the repairman contacted the driver by phone to identify the cause of the breakdown and to make decisions on how to approach the repair.
The driver followed all the instructions of the repairman. After he unscrewed four bolts and removed the technical hatch on the trucks gearbox, he saw pieces of the clutch there. It became obvious that the reason for the failure to switch gears was precisely the defect of the clutch itself.
At the request of the client, two repair options were considered. Let us tell you more about each one.
One of the options was to evacuate the truck to the nearest DAF service station. The cost of such a repair would be over 5,000 euro. The truck evacuation costs 900 euro, and the replacement of the clutch itself would cost about 4500 (there is a nuance: regardless of the defect, in addition to the repair kit, under the terms of the warranty, they always change the flywheel and the clutch fork which costs ~ 1500-2000 euro extra.
And the second option (the one that was eventually chosen) was to call a mobile service. The total was about 2000 euro and included the cost of the mobile service trip, clutch and its replacement.
The AWHelp24 service arranged a mobile service team at the place of the breakdown. The mechanics removed the gearbox and clutch, took pictures of the damaged disc, and sent them to the client. After confirmation, the entire clutch repair kit was changed. Then the truck continued its journey.
